Romania

In 2015 we took a trip with some friends to Romania, giving ourselves a couple of nights in Bucharest before picking up a rental car and heading to Azuga, which a small ski resort in winter, but a quiet place in summer. We had rented a lovely property on the hillside, a little out of town which had a beautiful balcony and hot tub overlooking the mountains.

The actual town of Azuga didn’t have much going for it, but it was well situated for trips out to Brasov, Bran (Dracula’s) Castle, Peles Castle and the Carpathian mountains. There was also hiking on the hills overlooking Azuga.

We had a lovely time in Romania and found it was a very cheap country to visit. The cities of Bucharest and Brasov were lovely, the local wine was superb, the hiking was good and the castles were interesting. We also visited a great winery in Azuga and some chic wine bars in Bucharest and Brasov. To top it all off, we had great weather while we were there. Our only disappointment was that we didn’t see any bears, despite the warning signs on one of the walks.

Here is our Photo Journey, we would highly recommend a trip if you enjoy a mix of culture, history, good wine and hiking…
