The Greek island of Santorini is so beautiful and so unbelievably romantic. We went over in 2015 and chose to split our time between Imerovigli and Oia. It’s hard to say which we preferred (possibly Imerovigli as Oia can get incredibly busy with cruise ships, even in the low season). The flights with Easyjet were cheap and the hotels we good value as it was low season. We put our “package” together ourselves.
It’s a stunning island with white-washed buildings and (when we went in late April) beautiful spring flowers. The food and wine are fantastic, and things cost around the same or less than in the UK.
For a romantic trip, we believe Santorini is hard to beat. The island is small enough that you can get around it in a day. We chose to do this on a quad bike, which was great fun!
When we were moving hotels from Imerovigli to Oia, we sent our luggage in a taxi and walked to Oia. It’s a really lovely walk, and if you are doing a similar two centre, we would recommend this. On arrival at the hotel, our luggage was waiting in our room (our hotel in Imerovigli arranged the transfer on our request).
There are great places for wine tasting on the island, our favourites were Santo Wines and Domaine Sigalas. We loved the white and sparkling wines but weren’t so keen on the reds, so on our second visit to Santo we asked them if we could to swop the reds on the wine flight for whites and sparkling, which they were happy to do.
Although both hotels were fantastic, and the one in Oia was more spacious and better value overall, the one in Imerovigli (Avianto Suites) made our Top 10 list for the views at breakfast, which was served (with sparkling wine) on your balcony overlooking the caldera.
Enjoy our “Photo Journey” (in no particular order)…
